ESOL

Our ESOL classes are designed for those whose first language is not English.

We have classes from complete Beginner to Advanced and you can attend in the morning, afternoon, evening. Perfect if you’re working or have children at school. Most of our courses offer nationally recognised qualifications in speaking, listening, reading and writing to help you with work or living in the UK. All our courses look at topics related to living and working in Britain.

To attend some courses you will need to attend a Skills check interview. Staff will talk to you about what you want to achieve and any support you may need. You will be offered the best class for you. This will help us to ensure you enrol on the right level course and we provide appropriate support to help you achieve.

In the current job market more and more employers are looking for potential employees with a minimum of level 2 English and Math’s qualifications. Entrance to further education and university normally requires at least level 2 Functional Skills in Math’s and English, if not GCSE. It’s quite normal to be nervous about Math’s, many adults think they are “bad at Math’s”, but chances are your already using Math’s in your everyday life on a day to day basis. We can help you identify your abilities and build on the skills you already have.

Our courses are for adults, so you will study with adults at a similar level so there is no fear of being the odd one out. If you left school a while ago, there is no need to worry, we have experienced teachers on hand who are used to helping learners in exactly your situation, we’re here to make Math’s work for you.

We offer free Math’s functional skills at level 1 and 2. Functional skills Math’s will set you on track for further studies or help you to get into work, or progress in your chosen area of work.

We also offer GCSE classes designed to support learners who wish to develop basic understanding of mathematics and gradually move to more complex and problem-solving challenges.

Courses are mainly held at the Southchurch Centre and at our Belfairs Centre in Leigh on Sea too. Our Art and Craft department also offer intensive courses, weekend workshops and events.

Our Language courses are well structured around a framework of competencies designed to allow you to build your skills and fluency as you move up the progression ladder. It can take time to complete the competencies of each level. However, you don’t have to start at the beginning if your ability is higher. . If you have a particular interest in a language which we are not currently offering and there is sufficient demand (eight or more learners) we will seek to provide a course in the language requested.
